Catherine Abbate founded Two Peas in 2005
after one too many
cookie making play dates in her kitchen. Inspired by her own
two children
and the valuable lessons they learned in the kitchen.
Our mission is not only to teach young children to cook,
but to have FUN while doing it!
In anticipation of SPRING we have developed
five weeks
of cooking adventures. These action packed classes meet once
a week.
Two Peas teaches cooking technique, broaden the palette and
even gives future foodies the confidence to experiment with
their own creations.
Our philosophy is that in order to have children learn to love
and
appreciate good food they must be exposed to it early on.
With that in mind, our classes start at ages 2 with a mommy
+ me class
so even the tiniest chefs can learn to mix and measure.
By the time our students reach the master level program most
are able to create their own recipes.
Many of the skills children are taught in
a traditional
classroom are reinforced in the kitchen environment.
Classes follow a routine that kids learn and come to depend
on.
A discussion about the food and ingredients, a taste test,
hands on cooking experience and finally clean up and a story.
We end our class together to eat the food we have prepared.
Parents are an important part of the class and are always
invited to join in the end of a class to share in the meal we
have created.
Two Peas teachers are filled with great hints about how to
make meals using fewer processed ingredients that your kids
will love.
Picky eaters are our specialty! Our
classes are held in various commercial
kitchens, working farms and restaurants in and around Newport
and Middletown, RI.
Each season we hold a number of specialty
workshops and
classes to highlight the produce from the season.
Two Peas is also available for birthday parties and private
classes
at your location or ours. Our cupcake decorating parties are
always a BIG hit!
